A sixty minute massage is equal to 8 hours of sleep to your body
A sixty minute massage is equal to 8 hours of sleep to your body
My influence for studying massage therapy came when my infant daughter Brittany was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when she was 6 months old - I was determined to help her with her physical limitations as much as possible. In 1989 I enrolled in the Connecticut Center for Massage and began what has become my life's passion! I was enthused by the endless modalities of massage and where this career would take me. I was also fascinated by the potential differences I could make in a person's life.
Shortly after graduation and receiving my Massage Therapist License in 2000, I opened
Bodyspeake Over the years, I have continued studying many forms and disciplines of massage. Additionally, I have studied extensively, various forms of physical therapy - also known as Integrated Structural Therapies - to gain an in depth knowledge of physiotherapy. I have also studied other forms of healing such as Reflexology, Essential Oil treatments, Reiki, Sound Healing with tuning forks, as well as Shamanic techniques and awarenesses , and techniques for emotional processing and healing.
All this knowledge added to my professional 'tool box' and expanded my scope of awareness beyond simply 'massage'. I have gained deep insight into the skeletal system and other body systems, as well as their inter-connectedness. When combined with my intuition and nearly 20 years of experience, I have developed the ability to 'read' the body.
Through these many years of experience I have learned that while symptoms help identify a problem area much like a flashing light on the dashboard, the origin of a dysfunction usually begins in a different area. If you have a leaking boat, do you want to simple keep bailing the water constantly, or would you prefer to find the source of the leak and repair it? For example: pain in the shoulder can be the result of a hip mis-alignment. And while I will work on the discomfort in the shoulder, I am focused on identifying and addressing the source of the problem in the hip. This may also include other factors such as neurological issues and/or emotional components. (Note: emotional pain can cause as much physical pain in the body as physical wounds) Working from these perspectives helps facilitate healing in several areas and on many levels and layers.
Although many people may have similar issues, each person is so uniquely different! I approach each individual with a highly tuned sense of understanding. I use my knowledge, my intuition, my hands and my heart and I expand my awareness to your body and energy field in order to see, hear, feel and know what your body is saying. Your needs become crystal clear as your body speaks to me.
